Organisation & Core Group
The Role of the EGMUS Core Group
EGMUS brings together national representatives from participating European countries. These members are usually affiliated with national museum statistics offices or related institutions and act as the main contact persons at national level. They contribute country-specific expertise, support data collection, and ensure the exchange of information between EGMUS and the national museum sectors. Through their involvement, national perspectives and methodological experiences are continuously fed into the European discussion on museum statistics.
From within this network of members, the EGMUS Core Group is formed. The Core Group consists of eight representatives from key national museum statistics offices and institutions and functions as the steering body of the European Group on Museum Statistics. It guides the development of methodologies, coordinates joint activities, and supports the strategic direction of the network.
The Core Group meets once a year at the Institute for Museum Research (IfM) in Berlin to review progress, exchange experiences, and plan future activities that support the harmonisation and advancement of museum statistics across Europe. Its work is closely linked to the contributions of the national members, whose expertise and engagement form the foundation of the EGMUS network of museum statistics across Europe.
